How to Rename Records on your NetSuite Account

One of the features of NetSuite that allows you to customize your NetSuite account a little further is the ability to rename records on your NetSuite account. You can directly rename records and transactions in just a few simple steps, so it’s definitely valuable to know how this process works once you’ve implemented bundles into your NetSuite account.

What if I Don’t Want to Rename Records?

If you’re ready to begin setting up and customizing your NetSuite account, you may want to consider how to rename records. Renaming records is not a vital step, so if you’re unsure as to whether this could deliver value for your brand, don’t feel bad for skipping this step – it may not be necessary in every scenario. Still, renaming records on your NetSuite account can be highly valuable, so it’s very worthwhile considering whether this could be valuable for your own management goals.

How to Rename Records on your NetSuite Account

Think that renaming records or transactions could be good for your account’s needs? If so, then this is luckily very simple with the following steps.
The first thing you’ll need to consider when it comes to your NetSuite account setup is to log in to your NetSuite account, which we have covered previously. Logging into your NetSuite account is fortunately very simple and only takes a matter of moments, and this will then leave youon the main dashboard page.
Once on your NetSuite dashboard, you should see the Setup Manager. From here, using the top navigation bar, head to Setup > Company > Rename Records/Transactions. This is shown in the screenshot below, and as you can see, it’s very simple to find.

Once you’ve navigated to this section, you should see a page that’s similar to the one presented below. The Rename Records/Transactions page will show a full list of transaction names and details. However, in some cases, businesses and managers have different names for different entities, and this could confuse matters a little.

Let’s take the vendor example here; some businesses, for example, may refer to these entities as a supplier. In this case, referring to them as vendors on NetSuite but suppliers elsewhere could very quickly get confusing – which is where changing the name and renaming the record could be valuable.

However, it is important to consider that renaming records should always be a big precaution. After all, in many scenarios, you may need some support from the customer service team at some point – and renaming the records could complicate this process. As such, if you rename a record, it’s worth considering that you may need to explain things clearly to the customer support team should you ever reach out to them for assistance.

With that being said, we have done our best to make these guides as thorough and comprehensive as possible. As such, hopefully, you won’t need to rely too heavily on the NetSuite customer support team; feel free to contact us if you need further guidance on how to make the most of your NetSuite account. While renaming your records isn’t a hugely difficult process, for many people, it’s not always easy to work out how to go about this. However, once you have installed the necessary NetSuite bundles for your business (if you haven’t done this yet, we’d recommend checking our Bundles Installation guide), renaming your records can be a massively valuable tip! However, it’s not necessarily a vital requirement, so it’s mainly worthwhile to know how to do this just in case you ever need to apply this in your own business management.
